Hitting percentage

Hitting % = (Kills − Attack errors) ÷ Total attempts

Attack errors are attacks hit out, into the net, or blocked straight down for a point. Don't include serving or ball-handling errors.

Many stats systems outside the US show the same number as a percentage called attack efficiency: .300 = 30%.

Can hitting percentage be negative?

Yes. If a hitter makes more attack errors than kills, the result is below zero.

What is a good passing average?

On a 0–3 scale, coaches generally treat averages above about 2.0 as solid. Exact targets vary by level.
